Vintage Thingies Thursday - My Kitschy Owl Trivets

I don't have a ton of vintage goodies this week, but I did find these cute owl trivets at Salvation Army- note the $1.79 price tag. All blue tags were 50% off the day I was there, so I got them for $1.79 total. Not bad considering I've been on an owl kick lately and scoping these exact sort of trivets out on Etsy and pricing them between $5 and $15 plus shipping!

A couple of coats of leftover white spray paint, since I'm not a fan of brass, and they're good to go!

Not sure where their final resting place will be in my kitchen, I keep moving them around. But I love them! :)

Linking up to VTT over at the Coloradolady.

  1. Those little owls are SO cute! It's amazing what white spray paint can do isn't it? They looked like 70's relics before, and now they are completely current! They look like something you would find at West Elm. I love them!

  3. I really like the owls spray painted white. And they look so nice against the green tiles. :-) I was just looking at some of your previous posts... so the green was in the kitchen and the bathroom... I actually really kinda like the green. So much better than the bubblegum pink I had before we re-did the bathroom.

  5. Oooh, West Elm, Kendall? I'm that good huh? LOL!

Too funny, P- well they do say great minds think alike, right?

GardenofDaisies- my grandmother's house (now my mom's house) is the bubblegum pink version of my bathroom. Still with original medicine cabinet, light fixture with electrical outlet in it (that no modern plugs fit into) and sink/countertop with chrome legs!

I don't mind the green in the kitchen, it's just the horrible green bathroom that has to go- yes this was a verrrrrry dated house when we bought it! Slowly but surely, we'll get there with it!

  9. I think they look really good in white. They look perfect where you have them, but like me you will probably move them around frequently. Thank you for visiting my blog.

  12. Very cute! I like that you're using them for decorations. I think both sets of grandparents had a bunch of those things. I bet the grandma that is still living could make a killing by selling all of the vintage stuff she owns.

  22. The trivets are fantastic and what a deal. I remember when owls were so popular in the 70s. A friend of my mom's had a huge collection.

  23. I also like them in white, you did a good job!
I thought it is really funny how they mark things, why 79 and not 75 or 80!
You would think that they wouldn't want to be bothered with giving odd change, anyway, good find for you!
