Work In Progress Wednesday, Week Four

>> Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Amongst other things (finishing some pendants, making some ring bearer shells and doing mountains of laundry)

I am working on this today
This is my father's baby quilt. Made for him by his grandmother when he was born.
The quilt will turn 70 this August.
I took an old shirt that was passed down through all my boys and cut it into strips.
I also used an old bandana.

I took some Stitch Witchery and fused the fabrics together.
This will hang on the wall in the little boys' room once the dowel and brackets I spray painted are dry.

What are you working on today?

Work In Progress Wednesday, Week Three

More soldering taking place this week.

I have 14 pendants left in progress; I chose these 7 to try and complete today.

The boys' room is still also very much a WIP. Although I have made a significant dent in it. Here is a sneak peek.
BTW, sanding, priming and spray painting MDF furniture is SO easy!
I've ordered something custom from Etsy for one wall in their room and also have another WIP for a different wall, which I'll share next Wednesday.

What are YOU working on today?!

Work In Progress Wednesday

I am debating trying to start up a link party. I figured there are a lot of parties out there for folks who make things and decorate and whatnot, but I don't believe I've come across one that shows off things people are currently working on.
(edit: I Googled it and apparently there are some folks out there who DO do this, but I didn't see any in linky form and it wasn't any blogs I am familiar with)

Being the multitasker that I am, I often have my brush in about 10 different pots of paint at the same time. And with that, there comes lots of unfinished -or works in progress- pieces.

I figured that not only will it justify for me that I'm not the only one who's always got something brewing, but it will also give myself and others the chance to ask for feedback, suggestions, cheering on- whatever we need to help us get the job done.

So while I'm mulling over whether this will work as a weekly party (and please comment to let me know what you think!) I'll leave you with my current Work In Progress...

I mentioned in my post on Monday, that I'd found these two headboards while out thrifting last weekend.
My plan is to paint them white (don't hate on me for painting wood- these are in bad shape and a refinisher I am not!) and then they're going into the little boys' bedroom.

We're getting rid of their bunkbeds. They're SO overwhelming in the small space.

Now here's where I'd like some suggestions.

I've cleaned and sanded them
and primed them

I've bought Rustoleum Gloss Pure White spray paint to cover them.

Do I distress or not distress? I'm not a big fan of the more feminine, heavily distressed shabby chic look and these ARE for a boys' bedroom- however, since they're bound to become slightly distressed on their own anyway just living in that room, should I give them an understated-but-intentional "scuff" here and there?

The walls are going to go this nautical blue color (Glass Sapphire), the trim and closet door will be Pure White (I used Behr's color preview tool on their website to show you an image with the wall and trim colors)

The bedspreads will be a plaid quilt with fairly traditional boy colors- similar to this one from PB Teen

So let me know what you think! Crisp white on the headboards or distressed?!

And don't forget to chime in on my idea for the weekly party too. Thanks! :)
